Mount Arthur

Graham Valley Road

DOC is continuing to work with Tasman District Council on finalising finance options, project management and delivery with the intent to fix the Graham Valley Road.
There is still no timeframe on when work will start and as advised in the previous update, a significant amount of large rock is needed to fix the road and there is none currently available. Rock will need to be quarried first before work can begin.
This issue will obviously affect the timeframe on the start of the work to fix the road, which in itself will not be a quick process.

DOC and Tasman District Council have received expert geotechnical advice which says that it is unsafe for vehicles to drive over the landslip.
The Geotechnical Report says that safe vehicular passage is not possible at present due to the risk of sudden collapse of portions of the road and the imminent risk of further slippage.

One of our main sticking points is around a design that is going to provide some longer-term resilience and the fact that there is a very mobile cliff on the true left which is depositing material into the river and altering the flow. We are mindful of  ensuring that any fix is not a quick patch up job that won’t last.

As you are aware, the road remains closed, as the slip is mobile and represents a significant risk.

Access is for residents only and we ask for people to stay safe and respect the closure.

Cobb Valley

Cobb Valley Road

Cobb Dam Road and Cobb Valley Road have been closed for repairs following the weather events, but are now both open.

However, with the recent weather this could change at any time, so it would be advisable to check with DOC prior to departure.
