Speargrass Hut - Love our Huts Season 3 (coordinated by FMC)

This club trip is about supporting Federated Mountain Clubs' campaign for looking after tramping huts. We'll give the hut a thorough check and clean, take out any rubbish and repor back to FMC on the state of the hut. To find out more about the Love our Huts campaign: https://loveourhuts.org.nz/

Located in Nelson Lakes National Park, the track starts from the Mt Robert car park. It is a pleasant three hour walk up Speargrass Valley under mixed beach forest. The hut is a personal favourite of mine, sitting in an open area of golden tussock with views up to Robert Ridge.

Participants need to make their own booking for a bed in the hut. Camp sites are also available. April falls within the summer season, so an annual hut pass may only be used for a tent site (not the hut).  Bookings via the DoC website:
