| Just an idea at this stage: Friday Drive to Lake Kaniere and climb Mt Brown Hut. It's a 4 bunker only and needs booking! There are camping spots next to the hut. SaturdayExplore behind the hut, then descend and stay at Lake Kaniere campground. If time allows, walk the easy, but very pretty water race walk, crossing over with car swap. SundayDrive to Smokeho carpark and climb to Ces Clark Hut on the Paparoa track (needs booking! Great walk) MondayDescend via Mt Watson to loop back and drive home. All weather dependent. Working folk can join for parts of if. Details to follow. Mt Brown Hut is already fully booked on Saturday night (as of 15/9), but we can still go Friday or Sunday. Ces Clark has fewer than 8 spaces free on Sunday night. It will be tricky to plan. We can only book at short notice, as I do not want to go in pouring rain. Alternative could be something in the Hokitika area, e.g. Rapid Creek Hut or Cedar Flat. Another option is to go up Ces Clark on Friday (currently plenty of spaces) with an early start driving from Nelson 4 hrs. Then down via Mt Watson on Saturday, camp at Kaniere Saturday night, and up to Mt Brown on Sunday, either for the day, or overnight at hut.
