Day 1 - Drive towards Murchison and park at the carpark of the Matiri Valley road. Walk to Lake Matiri hut and continue up to the 1000 Acres plateau to the NEW Poor Pete's hut which has just recently been installed by DOC. Camping recommended as the new hut has only 2 bunks. Day 2 - Follow the poled route across the plateau towards Larrikins Creek hut and climb the South ridge of The Haystack (1526m). Return to camp and then back home. Map Series: BR23 |
