Queens Birthday weekend

From near Reefton, a 3-day exploration of an historic mining area. We will carry tents and/or sleeping mats as it is a long weekend and this is a popular destination. 

Day 1: From the road end it's a steady 1000+m climb up Topffer Creek to Kirwans Hut (12 bunks), perched just above the bushline. DOC time is 6 hours. 

Day 2: Explore the tops around Kirwans Hill in the morning. In the afternoon we will visit the Kirwans Reward Mine and Lord Brassey Stamper Battery then return to Kirwans Hut for the night.

Day 3: Return to the vehicles via the same route we took in the first day and return to Nelson.
