This new 80km cycleway also has much to offer trampers.  In fact the middle part is still only a tramping route. To simplify transport logistics we plan to split into two parties and do a cross-over:  1) Starting at Lyell, in Buller gorge -  Day 1 from picnic area to Lyell Saddle hut on old dray road (5hr);  Day 2 to Stern Creek hut via Lyell tops and Ghost lake (8hr).    2) Starting on Mokihinui river past Seddonville - Day 1 from road end to M.Forks hut via gorge and Specimen Point (5hr); Day 2 to Stern Creek hut via Goat creek (6hr).  Parties share a night at Stern Creek, swap car keys and continue on the other's route. In the event of the S.Mokihinui river being impassable, the parties will wave at each other and return from whence they came. DoC hut pass for M.Forks; 2x$15 for L.Saddle & S.Creek huts.
