Description  

Lake Stream Hut & Mt Haast

Day 1: Drive 2.5 hrs past Springs Junction. From Rahu Saddle, walk thru bush for 3.5 hours, crossing the stream a few times. Sleep in quaint 2-bunk bivouac. Good camping nearby.

Day 2: Return to car and trackhead. Climb a very steep ridge for two hours to the bushline on a well-formed route. It is another hour along the right-hand ridge to the pyramid-shaped peak of 1587 m Mt Haast which provides spectacular views of nearby glacial valleys and the Main Divide. This route is dependent on weather and the party's capabilities.
