Description

Matariki Weekend in Reefton. It is midwinter, weather could be variable - this will be a weekend of good tramping and social activities with the bar moving towards the social if teh weather is inclement. Either way a good long weekend get-a-way at a nice location.
Fri after arriving in Reefton do the Cement town Ajax mine loop from Black Point 5 Hrs, - well graded tracks with some interesting old relics with stories on information panels associated with the mining industry.
Sat (or Sunday if the weather is inclement on Sat). Mt Haast (1587M) 6 hrs return. A steep climb on a well formed route (960M ascent). 25 mins drive from Reefton.
Sun - Duffy's Creek Track. This is a 3hr return track - described as a route, but it is well marked. It leaves from a carpark on the Reefton - Springs Jtn road. The end point is an open valley with an "ephemeral lake. Drive home via Springs Junction after returning on the same track (300m ascent)
Accommodation: I have booked an AirBNB villa in the town for 2 nights - sleeps 8. Cost $112 each for the 2 nights if I get 8 people booked. IMPORTANT. Please let me know ASAP if you wish to come. If there are less that 8 people by Jun 27 I will need to consider the extra cost to participants and whether I cancel the booking.
