Description
Saturday: Weather dependant. Register now, then watch this space! Combo with Waimea Tramping Club!
WOODED PEAK : An angular 1111m knob in Nelson' big backyard. You can see 'Woody' from the airport.
Deets: From the Brook Camping Grounds, climb up to Four Corners. Look for the olde NTC signpost. Stroll along the olde Dun Mtn tramline to rest at Third House Shelter (NTC president Laurie Gibbs built the chimney.)
Further along the Dun line we emerge from the bush at Coad's Creek, the traditional rest stop where parties once lit a fire and boiled the billy. Shortly after we reach Windy Point, and make a sharp left-hand-turn up Well Ridge - a track created by NTC as an easier way to summit 'Woody' .
On the return journey, we may visit Junction Saddle, or even climb The Fringe, depending on energy & ethusiasm levels.
- Time: Meet at Centre of NZ carpark, at 8:30am sharp. (Hardy Street East.)
- Tramping Time: Allow 7-9 hours.
- Grade: Medium-Fit (Fitness important as we're climbing up a steep ridge to the top. And it's a loooong day.
- Route Description: https://nelsontrails.co.nz/wooded-peak-track/
