Camping in the Cobb before it gets too cold and dark :)

On Friday lunchtime (Another car could leave after work if we have enough people), drive to the Sylvester carpark. Walk up the forestry road (could be done in the dark) and stay in Sylvester Hut for the night. Around 500m up, 6km, 2 - 2.5 hrs. Hut $25 or hut pass.

Saturday, at leisurely pace, walk past Iron Lake up to the ridge, climb Iron Hill (optional sidetrip), then follow the undulating ridge towards Mt Benson. Great vistas. About 300m altitude gain. Above Lake Lilly, drop down past the lake to Diamond. Time to explore, relax, swim. We might camp at Lake Diamond, but most likely will carry on to Lake Lockett to camp. Depending on time and weather. All day off track. The ridge is partly exposed.

Sunday, follow the trap line close to the river on to the quarry and then walk back to the carpark, about 4 hrs. I have not done this part, but it is marked and i have the GPX for it. We could do a walk en route home, e.g. the Takaka Hill walk, 2.5 hrs.

It is IMPORTANT that "You contact the Trip Leader before registering" for a trip. Especially if you are new to the club or a non-club member (Visitor). The Leader will need to be confident that you have the experience, fitness and the correct gear to complete the trip successfully. :-)
