This relatively easy day walk is one of the most scenic day walks within a short drive of Nelson. A great loop track with outstanding views of the lake below, virtually the entire way. It's a well maintained track, though steep in parts and with some lose gravel and a couple of small morraines to cross. ... It would appear I normally walk this in the opposite direction to most; up paddy's track and down pinchgut. This means you get views all the way as you climb up and plenty of photo-ops to catch the breath for the less fit. But I'll decide on the direction closer to the time when I know the weather and the group's abilities. Decision is we'll go UP Pinchgut and DOWN Paddy's track since that direction is a little easier on the kneesTravel Only one car needed: We will meet at Cathedral Steps @ 8 Richmond Badminton Hall @ 8.15 Details Distance approx: 9km Elevation gain approx 650m
Timings It normally takes me approx 3 - 4 hours for the entire loop. DOC suggests 5 hours. Gear Whatever the weather forecast, you'll want to bring both a warm and wet layer - Mount Robert is an Alpine environment and the weather can change quickly.
