A leisurely wander in to Wainui Hut for an overnight camping trip. This trip is kid friendly and we will be bringing our heavy 2.5 year old along carrying him so we won't be moving fast. The valley is forested in beautiful beech forest, and the track runs parallel to the mossy-banked Wainui River, which gradually increases in flow with distance down the valley. There are several un-bridged creeks that are tricky to cross without getting wet feet. 5.6km both ways in and out. Wainui Hut is positioned in a grassy clearing a short distance from Wainui River. Given the relatively low number of overnight visitors, the hut is only equipped with four bunks, TENTS ARE MANDATORY!
Those who want a bit more of a challenge can extend the trip with a loop out over the ridge on the way in or out. I will carry a PLB and happily guide the way but there will be an expectation that groups and participants will be self-sufficient as I will be busy looking after my busy little boy.

It is IMPORTANT that "You contact the Trip Leader before registering" for a trip. Especially if you are new to the club or a non-club member (Visitor). The Leader will need to be confident that you have the experience, fitness and the correct gear to complete the trip successfully. :-)
