***TRIP CANCELLED DUE TO HEAVY RAIN FORECAST***

This will be a challenging trip in poorly tracked and untracked terrain.

Strenous climbs, possibly some bush bashing up the Hellfire where the old cut track is lost to windfall. Ditto up the track above the gorge up the Branch.

Camping in tents the whole way. Stunning tops and tarns, lush upper valleys. Good swimming- can be wasps in the beech forests.

Day one - cross the Wairau over the swingbridge by Hamilton rapid and walk down to Hellfire Creek. Ascend the Hellfire Creek using as much of the old cut track as we can find, Camp above the bushline by 2 lovely high mountain tarns.

Day 2 - cross over into the headwaters of Misery Creek and descend down to Bottom Misery Hut and continue up the Branch River to camp by the Branch Bivouac.

Day 3 - Move further up the headwaters of the Branch crossing over the Raglan Range to the headwaters of the Lee Stream- down past Lee Stream Hut and out to the swingbridge.

Rainbow Station will charge us (lots) for parking near the swingbridge unless we decide to ferry people to there and park near the skifield carpark.

It is IMPORTANT that "You contact the Trip Leader before registering" for a trip. Especially if you are new to the club or a non-club member (Visitor). The Leader will need to be confident that you have the experience, fitness and the correct gear to complete the trip successfully. :-)
