Description

NTC Snow Skills training @ Robert Lodge 2021.

POSTPONED from August to September DUE TO COVID. Hoping we are in L2 lockdown & can be a group of 30 people in the mountain hut together.

Preference will be given to club members...

Hopefully enough snow to experience snow skills training in this wonderful environment, otherwise just an excise to get out into them mountains and stay in a warm comfy enviroment after lockdown.

Walk in to Robert Lodge early Saturday, and stay the night. Kerosene heating, gas cooking with pots, pans, cutlery & crockery provided in the lodge, but no showers. Solar power now installed but bring your head torch. Toilets are flushed by bucket. Bring your own toilet paper.

Training will be in the basin in front of the Lodge, or we can walk in the area if we want to travel further.

Self catered, but some may wish to pool their food for Saturday evening. The fee for Robert Lodge is $20, additional to the transport charge. Maximum capacity of Robert Lodge is 30. If the weather forecast is dire, the trip will be postponed.

 The object of the training is to;

  • hone existing snow skills or develop them if you are new to snow travel using gear.
  • practice movement on different types and gradients of snow slopes.
  • gain confidence in what is comfortably doable and avoiding what is not.
  • practice self-arresting technique in varying conditions.
  • snow travel using walking poles will also be covered.
  • Possibly build an igloo or snow cave..

For those of you who are experienced snow trampers, come along to enjoy the company of other like-minded trampers and share your experience of snow tramping. Youngsters welcome...

Anyone able to recite or read poetry for the evening entertainment?
