Description

  

Easy 3-day lakeside ramble in North Canterbury hills, following streams and flats. A good leg-stretcher.

DAY 1:
Drive SH7 to Culverden, Hawarden, then inland up Lake Sumner Road along the Hurunui Stream. (5-6 hrs)
Walk from the Sisters Swingbridge, journey 3 hours to Gabriel Hut (4 bunks, free) then on to Jollie Brook Hut (7 bunks, $5/ea) = 4.5 hours total, plus detour to visit Lake Sumner (30mins return).

DAY 2:  Jollie Brook Hut downstream to junction, then upstream to Cold Stream Hut (6 bunks) = 3 hours, inc. "frequent stream crossings."

DAY 3: Cold Stream Hut out to Jollie Brook Stream, then across flats to Sisters Swingbridge = 4 hours. Additional possibility of detour to visit Lake Taylor and Loch Katrine on 4WD tracks.
