Navigation training by Mike Glover.Event orginiser: Debbie Hogan Saturday 13th February, 9am start.
Navigation training in the Nelson classroom (Senior Net Hall, Pioneer Park, 11 Hastings Street, Washington Valley, Nelson) with some outside exercises in the adjacent Pioneer park.
Subjects we will cover.
1 Trip planning
2 Terrain assessment using the map to relate to the land features of a particular area.
3 Taking magnetic and grid bearings.
4 Traveling on a bearing using the compass to keep you on course.
5 Using a compass to find your exact position.
What to bring: Pencil, ruler, eraser, compass, paper for making notes and to work on, lunch. Training manual, Tea, coffee etc are provided.
Sunday 14th February, 8am start.
Travel to Flora car park where we will navigate through untracked terrain between Flora saddle and the summit of Mt. Lodestone.
People will need to be of around medium fitness.
What to bring: Compass and usual tramping gear suitable for a day walk.
The course is designed for beginners through to experienced people.
Costs: Members $20, Non Members $25. This will include the fuel cost for the Sunday practical training on Mt. Lodestone ($16) and the printing of the training manual.
Limit 12 people, 5 on waiting list.

It is IMPORTANT that "You contact the Trip Leader before registering" for a trip. Especially if you are new to the club or a non-club member (Visitor). The Leader will need to be confident that you have the experience, fitness and the correct gear to complete the trip successfully. :-)

VISITORS can register using their email address which will be used to send you trip registration confirmation details and the ability to cancel the trip registration. Please register each person attending separately.
