This is a 3 day trip to Mt Owen from Courthouse Flat. It is on the fit side of medium, and a reasonable level of fitness and ability on rough terrain are required. See the DOC website for further information about the track: https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/nelson-tasman/places/kahurangi-national-park/things-to-do/tracks/mt-owen-tracks-and-routes/ (we are doing the Northern Route). We will stay at Granity Pass Hut both nights. It's a 12 bunker, it may be a good idea for some people to bring tents in case it is busy, or at least a sleeping mat to put on the floor. Day 1: Courthouse Flat to Granity Pass Hut (6 hours), 1000m climb. Day 2: Climb Mt Owen (1875m), return to Granity Pass Hut for a second night (7 hr return). 600m climb on this day, over rough terrain. Spectacular views if the weather is fine. Day 3: Return to Courthouse Flat by same route. Please note the is a FULL THREE DAY TRIP, Friday - Sunday. |

It is IMPORTANT that "You contact the Trip Leader before registering" for a trip. Especially if you are new to the club or a non-club member (Visitor). The Leader will need to be confident that you have the experience, fitness and the correct gear to complete the trip successfully. :-)
