Description
Lodestone / Hodder We leave from the Flora car park (960M) and begin a steep ascent through beech forest to Lodestone (1262M) a good place for morning tea. We then descend, very steeply at times, to the saddle (1180M) between Lodestone and Hodder before acsending to Mt Hodder (1462M) - a good place for lunch. Alternatively it is possible to sidle along the side of Lodestone reducing the climb by 60M. After lunch we head in a SW direction on a circuit back to the Flora track arriving at Flora Hut soon after reaching the Flora track. A pause to look at the resident wekas and have a snack before heading back to the car park and return to Nelson. Most of this walk is marked route only, though bush open and easy to walk through. There are some steep sections and it is moderately long. Map Series: Topo50 Map: BQ24
