Postponed from previous weekend due to weather.... A winter wander up to Richmond Saddle hut on the Saturday (8 bunks, 1 hut ticket or annual hut pass.) There is a creek crossing at the bottom, will need 4WD to cross. If water level is too high, we may need to walk from there, then it will be a somewhat boring hour or so up a forestry road to the start of the track. It's a fairly grunty 4 hour ridge climb up to the hut. Depending on the weather (Saturday or Sunday) trudge up Mt Richmond (500m climb) and explore the tops, take in the views and play with the ice axe and crampons and then back down to the hut. Sunday back the same way. Need an early start on Saturday 7.30am, as it is a long drive over. Map Series: Topo50 Maps BR26, BQ26 |
