Description

This tramp is a overnight trip to visit the new Moonlight tops hut. Drive down the Westcoast to the Moonlight valley,near Blackball.Head up valley on a dirt road to the moonlight track carpark.On the track you pass  remnants of the area's gold mining history.Along the track at the head of the valley on the uphill climb you pass the derelict Meikes hut around 2 hours walk.Cross the creek pass the hut and follow track up onto the tops,on the Paparoa range,These tops are where the new Pike 29 Memorial track is being developed,which is opening in 2019.Climb to ridge line just before the 1104  high point then drop down a ridge line to 1000m to the new Moonlight tops hut.The hut hasn't been opened yet, so we will probably have to tent.We can check out the new hut and biv near by.Some of you can explore the nice flat tops on the range.The hut faces West,so we mite have a incredible Tasman sea sunset. The next day walk back same way walked in.
