Description

Excellent trip to the beautiful tops in the Cobb Valley area of Kahurangi National Park. Although fitness is required, it will be 'steady as she goes' and non-techncial. NOTE: there are some changes in route/camp site.

Day 1: Drive to road end at Trilobite Hut. Tramp up valley to Cobb Hut. Turn E and carry on along the track to Lake Cobb and then to Round Lake (1300m). Camp by lake.

Day 2. With day packs, head NE up onto ridge leading to Mt Gibbs (1645m) and continue ca 2.5 km N along ridge for the final scramble to Aorere Peak (1730m). Return to Round Lake, possibly via Xenicus Peak.

Day 3. De-camp and return back down valley to vehicles. Aim to be back in Nelson in time for NTC Club Night (Show & Tell).

Variations are possible depending on the weather.
