| Peter O has this idea and is happy to navigate: From Lewis Pass, via Ada Hut, 3 Tarns Pass, Bob Hut, East Matakitaki Hut, then over d'Urville,Thompson and Waiau Passes to Blue Lake and out via Sabine Hut or out via Moss Pass and d'Urville track. Probably use Rotoroa Watertaxi.We brainstormed a bit at the trip planning meeting with Michele and Kath, looking at different options and variations, possibly even 2 parties, allowing a fitter and an easier/shorter version? We are open to suggestions if anybody wants to join the planning or has done parts of it.It will take around 7 days, plus rest/rain days (?), requires a tent, a high level of fitness and off track experience.We will probably have to pay for transport to Lewis Pass and for the water taxi across Rotoroa (unless we do some sort of cross over). You will need to take the whole time off from Anniversary weekend to Waitangi, allowing to use the best good weather window. That statual holiday combo gives us 10 days! |
