Description |
||
Visit the Denniston Plateau with its unique ecosystem, harsh climate and underground mining history. This area is under threat from a proposal for a large open cast coal mine. Come and see what could be lost. The route I am proposing on Saturday was put together by Neil Silverwood, and may appear in a Wilderness magazine in the near future. Drive to Westport Friday afternoon/evening. Stay Westport Kiwi Holiday Park both nights. Saturday: Deep Stream loop from Cedar Creek Road. 6-8 hours. Back to Westport for the night. Sunday: Myra’s Track up Mt William (?3-4 hours return). Option to do a loop via Cedar Creek Saddle, or return the same way and also do the Coalbrookdale and Brakehead walks. |
