| RAINBOW VALLEY ROMP. Day 1: 12km. Travel up Wairau River past Rainbow ski-field turn-off, to carpark. Walk about 5 hours, criss-crossing river to 6-bunk Paske Hut. This is a beautiful spot. Half the party will need to camp (or more). Day 2: 11km. Climb up to Paske Saddle for view. Return down Paske Valley. Head up Begley Creek to Begley Hut. Day 3: 12km. Return via Wairau River. (The FIT party will cross the alpine pass into the Hamilton River route out to the main road. 14km.) Note: This trip requires access permission, and lower river levels. It's a wet-boot trip with off-track sections. COSTS: Each of 2 cars needs to pay $60 for access through Rainbow Station. (This equates to $12 each for 9 people)...in addtion to usual petrol for passengers ($35 each).FINAL COSTS: $47 per passenger; $12 for drivers. |

It is IMPORTANT that "You contact the Trip Leader before registering" for a trip. Especially if you are new to the club or a non-club member (Visitor). The Leader will need to be confident that you have the experience, fitness and the correct gear to complete the trip successfully. :-)
