Now the 20th July. Mt Duppa. Access to Mt Duppa has been closed for several years due to on-going Forestry Operations. Access is now open. It is a short drive from Nelson making it easily accessible on short winter days. This will allow a Nelson departure at 8.30 from the Cathedral Steps. Mt Duppa (1143 m) is at the northern end of the Bryant Range, in Mt Richmond Forest Park. On a fine day it provides spectacular views [UPDATE: I have been shown photos of plane wreckage from 2011 approx 1 km from the summit of Mt Duppa. If the weather suits, we could go looking for the wreckage. I have a gpx file to help. The track to the summit is short, but steep with some interesting rock outcrops on the way.[ Approx 2 hours] There is car access to around 500m leaving only 600 or so to climb. |
