This trip brings us into typical Marlborough high country. A loop is made around the Leatham, Severn and Saxton valleys and back to the Leatham with 3 high passes. All huts have 6 bunks. Access is via the Leatham Valley road off Wairau road. Day 1. Bottom Gordons Hut 750M. Day 1 Drive to start (either to end of road (at Bottom Gordons Hut) or to Bob's stream where we would need to drive across the Leatham river) 4Hrs (5.5hrs if access to Bobs Creek only) Top Leatham Hut 980M Moderate climb. Day 2 Severn Hut 1100M. Steep climb to the Severn Saddle at 1580M and down a scree to Severn River. 6-7hrs Day 3 Saxton hut. 1000M. Steep climb to a peak P1764 and down into Saxton river. 8-9Hrs Day 4 Top Gordons Hut 1150M. 7-9hrs Moderate climb to Saxton Saddle 1420M Day 5 To Bottom Gordons Hut and out 4hrs Map Series: BS25 Severn and BS26 Mount Muller. |
