Four-day trip via the Hodder, including a spare day in case of bad weather.

Day 1: Drive up the Awatere Valley inland from Seddon and splash 22km up the Hodder River (up to 80 crossings) to the Marlborough Tramping Club's Hodder huts ($10 pp per night).

Days 2 and 3: Explore the high country in the area. Surrounding peaks include Tapuae-0-Uenuku (2885m), Mt Alarm (2877m), Mitre Peak (2620m), Pinnacle (2720m) and Crows Nest (2449m).

Day 4: Retrace steps down river and home.

NOTE: Good ice axe and crampons skills essential.
