Please join us for a combined club night hosted by Waimea Tramping Club. This will be held at Whakatu Presbyterian Church, 34 Champion Road, Richmond at 7:30pm. Please note this is a different day of the week and venue to our usual NTC club nights. The speaker will be Peter Laurenson, speaking about his new book Aotearoa Light: Moments of wonder and realisation in New Zealand wilderness which will be released in August this year. AOTEAROA LIGHT takes readers on a journey through the wondrous and varied landscapes of Aotearoa/New Zealand’s wilderness, through photographs that catch the light, and experiences and reflections that explore our role within Earth’s connected ecosystem. More New Zealanders than ever are recreating in our natural environment, and with that a growing number are doing wonderful things through their involvement in conservation-related activities. Despite this, apathy, indifference and arrogance are still shown by some, even right to the highest ranks in government, to our natural environment – to the ecosystem we (and our economy) are a part of and so dependent upon. Concerned about the challenges our warming planet brings, Peter presents images of Aotearoa New Zealand that convey the benefits of wilderness; reminders of what we must protect and nourish, if humanity is to thrive. |
