The weather forecast was not very promising for that weekend but 7 trampers took it on to make the best of it. The bonus was a warm lodge waiting for us at the Eco Village at Mistletoe Bay in the Marlborough Sounds. A good coffee in Havelock got us inspired and we enjoyed the lovely drive to the Bay.
Soon a fire in the log burner warmed the place up and we were busy with a cup of tea and watching the resident rabbit through the telescope. It had eaten up a nice round patch of grass around itself and didn't move. The amusement kept the conversation going for some time until we decided to explore the peninsula walk. It was overcast but not raining and quite pleasurable. On return we visited Te Mahia on Kenepuru Sound and returned vie a loop track to the lodge. A nice potluck dinner was shared.
We woke up to a lazy morning, the weather improving. So we decided to walk up to the Onehau look out which gave us fantastic views of the Kenepuru and Queen Charlotte Sounds. The sun and clouds were coming and going, putting different shades and lights on the water. Five of us then continued along the ridge to Torea Saddle and Portage, while Kate and John drove the cars over. It was a happy and relaxed weekend.
