SUMMARY:possibly SNOW SKILLS TRAINING at Robert Lodge
URL;VALUE=URI:https://live.nelsontrampingclub.org.nz/events/742/possibly-snow-skills-trai
ning-at-robert-lodge?tmpl=component
DESCRIPTION:Based on the success of the 2019 training, this is proposed to be a combine
d Golden Bay Alpine & Tramping Club, Waimea Tramping club, Marlborough
Tramping Club and NTC trip.\nRegret, due to lack of snow in the area of the
hut, the snow skills training trip will not go ahead in the current format
. \n\nWalk in to Robert Lodge early Saturday, and stay the night.\nThe curr
ent plan for the training weekend is low keyed and will depend on final num
bers. We would include some training aspects over the weekend, but it will
be informal training in action rather than a formal navigation training eve
nt. I will print out and laminate some maps of the area, which we can use f
or " Where the heck are we?" and "Help, how do we get back to the hut safel
y?" scenarios while out tramping. We will concentrate on moving safely on s
teep ground and determining the safest route while off track. Probably on a
walk to Christies ridge to practice steep ground work & enjoy the view
s. On Sunday morning we will walk to Julius summit in search of snow. If fo
und, we can try out our crampons and ice axes. (GBTC, we do have crampons &
amp; ice axes for hire from MTC & NTC). If not, we will enjoy the walk
along the ridge, returning to the lodge for lunch, clean up and head for ho
me. Kerosene heating and gas cooking are provided in the lodge, but no show
ers. No candles are to be lit, so bring your head torch (+spare battries).
Toilets are flushed by bucket. Self catered, but some may wish to pool thei
r food for Saturday evening. Open to ideas on this. The fee for Robert Lodg
e for club members is $20, (children $15), for visitors ($30 and children $
25) additional to the transport charge. Maximum capacity of Robert Lodge is
 30. We also can make use of the Christy lodge (30) for sleeping as well, b
ut neither the heating or water are connected. Some may need to bring a sle
eping mattress. If the weather forecast is dire, the trip will be postponed
.\nPlease take note of the following information received: 8/7/20:\nVFML ha
s been engaged by the Department of Conservation(DOC) to carry out an aeria
l predator control operation in the Nelson Lakes National Park during the m
onths of August & September 2020 which includes an aerial application o
f 1080 pellets.\n\nThis operation is weather dependant, hence, we are not a
ble at this stage to give a specific date as regard when it will occur. Ho
wever, the operation has to be completed by the 30th September 2020. \n \nO
nce a definitive date is able to be determined VFML will advise all interes
ted parties giving 48 hours’ notice.\nNote also this later update;\nHello M
t Robert Hut Users\n \nFurther to my earlier email (below) I write to confi
rm that all the necessary consents have been granted and as such we will lo
ok to execute the helicopter Prefeed and 1080 Toxin drops at the first avai
lable weather window.\n \nIf you have any questions relating to this please
don’t hesitate to contact me and could I please ask that you send me a ret
urn email confirming your receipt of this email.\n \nMany thanks\n \n\nMatt
