Midwinter Solstice party @ Robert Lodge
Yes the M id-winter trip is on... The Hut is booked so let the Solstice party plannin g begin. Snow is falling down south, at last, so hopefully we have snow and excellent weather for our trip.
We will lea ve Nelson on Saturday morning at 8am, and wander up pinchgut to regroup at the shelter. Hopefully there will be fresh snow, so we may need to put on c rampons here. Robert Lodge for early lunch and a settle in period. A walk a round the hut environment to build up an appetite.
Our midwinter theme is “Christmas in the snow”. For those who wish to join in, we will make a communal dinner and I will make mulled wine again. Bring red wine for the pot and I will bring the spices. Let me know if you would like to join the communal dinner, and I will coordinate the ingredients. B ecause it is Christmas, please bring a Christmas present (max $10) for the Santa bag.
Hut fee $20, school aged kids $15, payab le to the Robert Hut owners. Bank transfer to me before the trip please. Hu t can accommodate max 28 people. No cookers, candles or open flames please. The hut has gas cookers, lots of pots and pans, plates, knives & forks , mugs…. Wonderful heating system & lights, but bring your torch for th e sleeping rooms. Bunks with mattresses & pillows, and spare blan kets, but bring a pillow case. No showers available, as the water freezes. One flushing toilet in the hut.
On Sunday we will walk along the ridge as far as we feel inclined, return to hut for lu nch & clean up, before heading back down again about 3pm.
