There is some great country at our back door. Walk in off the street and get local!
We will start at the Brook St campground, splitting into two parties. 1. Go via Brook Waimarama Sanctuary, entry fee $11. Up t he Koru track and the wonderful Upper Valley track. Exit to Third House at Toutouwai gate; 2. Alternatively, go outside the fence via the Classic road up to 4-Corners then on the Dun Mtn Walkway to Third House. Very similar t ime/effort but more nature in BWS. Then we continue together on the Dun Mtn Walkway to the saddle under Wooded Peak. Take the track to left that goes along the spur to Fringed Hill where there are excellent views of the city and bay beyond. Then down another spur track to 4-Corners and back to the B rook via the Classic. Nothing technical but beautiful country and vistas, a nd a good workout (ca 15km; 750m vertical).
