The Kenepuru Road will be open to public access from Friday 11th March t o Monday 21st March when more road works will commence.
The plan is t o drive to Kenepuru Camping ground on the Sat afternoon (19th) perhaps with a swim on the way ? Share a BBQ meall at the DOC camp with a glass of soem thing? Overnight in your tent. Head off by say 9 am to climb Mt Stokes (120 3m & highest point in the Sounds : 4-5 hours return) Enjoy expans ive views over the Sounds while having lunch at the top. Return to ca rs and Nelson, perhaps with a coffee in Havelock or Rai Valley on the way b ack?
An easy walk but because of the distance, let's try to mak e ot into a fun overnighter before we run out of good weather and daylight. ....................Children welcome.
IF THE WEATHER LOOKS BAD ON THE SUNDAY (PRESENT OUTLOOK), THEN LEAVING LATE FRIDAY AND WALKING SAT WOULD B E AN OPTION.
It is a two and half hour drive from Nelson to Kenepurur Camping Ground.(Just under 150 km) Hence the idea of not doing it in one day!
