SUMMARY:Larapinta Trail, Alice, Oz, in AUGUST
URL;VALUE=URI:https://live.nelsontrampingclub.org.nz/events/events-search-results/919/lar
 apinta-trail,-alice,-oz,-in-august?tmpl=component
DESCRIPTION:Please note: This trip will happen in AUGUST, starting on 26th, but please
contact me now, as I will be leaving NZ in early May, with limited access t
o the internet.\nI have worked out a detailed 12 day itineraray, starting f
 rom Redbank\nhttps://www.larapintatrail.com.au/ (https://www.larapintatrail
 .com.au/)\nhttps://nt.gov.au/leisure/parks-reserves/plan-your-visit/bushwal
 king-hiking/larapinta-trail/sections-of-the-larapinta-trail (https://nt.gov
 .au/leisure/parks-reserves/plan-your-visit/bushwalking-hiking/larapinta-tra
 il/sections-of-the-larapinta-trail)\nThe Larapinta trail is a 12day, 223km
track in the Red Centre, finishing at Alice Springs (if walked West to East
, which I will do).\nIt runs along the spine of the West MacDonnell Ranges.
There are gorges and canyons to explore, views from over 1000m altitude, s
wimming holes and lots of Central Australia's geology, ecology and history.
\nIt is not hard to get to or negotiate, therefore can be walked  independe
 ntly.\nhttps://castawaywithcrystal.com/larapinta-trail-on-the-cheap/ (https
 ://castawaywithcrystal.com/larapinta-trail-on-the-cheap/)\nYou'll need to c
arry food for 3-5 days (till next food drop), daily water 4-6l (water at ca
mpsites), a warm sleeping bag (possible night frosts) and your usual overni
ght camping gear.\nThe sections take between 5 and 11 hrs, most of them bei
ng between 8-10 hrs.\nAs far as i can tell from lots of read ing, the track
is reasonably cheap, if self guided: now, since July only, AUS$125 track f
ee, camping AUS $ 5-20 pp per night, food drop $ 60 per drop per group, tra
ck transport $ 100-300 pp, depending on numbers. All rough estimates, to th
e best of my knowledge. Food and gas can be brought in Alice the day before
trekking.\nWe can arrange (or do ourselves, via rental car for a day) 3 fo
od drops along the trail, so that we only have to carry food for max 5 days
. There are also 2 cafes along the trek.\nhttps://larapintatransfers.com.au
 /transfer-costs-and-online-booking/ (https://larapintatransfers.com.au/tran
sfer-costs-and-online-booking/)\nThe whole walk is devided into 12 sections
(with 35 camp sites). If some want to walk faster or slower, that's fine b
y me, as long as we all start together - to share transport costs. We'll wa
lk from west to east (that's contrary to most official track descriptions,
but it has been recommended to me, and it means not being blinded by aftern
oon sun.) This way, we simply finish in Alice, which means we dont have to
pre-order any track transport, as we wont need a pick up where we end)\nhtt
 ps://weareexplorers.co/self-guided-hiking-larapinta-trail/ (https://weareex
 plorers.co/self-guided-hiking-larapinta-trail/)\nI have chosen this period
as it seems to be a good time considering a mix of factors: temperature (up
to 25 degrees celsius during the day, 0-5 at night, but frosts still possi
ble!), star gazing, bird watching chances, fewer crowds (it's busy in June/
July), wildflower resurgence and hopefully just before the blow flies seaso
 n.\nhttps://www.larapintatrailwalk.com.au/planning-safety/when-to-go (https
 ://www.larapintatrailwalk.com.au/planning-safety/when-to-go)\nI'll also joi
n a 3day Uluru Tour, to explore of in the area: Uluru, Kata Tjuta (Olgas),
 and Kings Canyon.\nhttps://mulgasadventures.com.au/mulgas-adventures-uluru-
 tours/book-uluru-tours/ (https://mulgasadventures.com.au/mulgas-adventures-
uluru-tours/book-uluru-tours/)\n \nContact me by phone 021-2520877 or email
