URL;VALUE=URI:https://live.nelsontrampingclub.org.nz/events/events-search-results/872/bat
 on-river?tmpl=component
DESCRIPTION:Access is via Upper Moutere, Dovedale and Thorpe and cross the bridge over
the Motueka R. just north of Woodstock, then follow the gravel road on the
true left of the Baton River for about 10 km to the Ellis River turn-off. F
ord the Baton here. A high clearance 4WD is required. The road is a track a
nd can be driven as far as the suspension bridge and park bench/picnic tabl
e at the Haines Stream confluence. Park vehicles here and cross the swing b
ridge to follow the well signed track on the true left of the Baton.Track i
nitially easy going on good track, with lovely views of the river, but grad
ually becoming more demanding. The area is extremely attractive and appeali
ng.Our likely turn around will be at the junction to Loveridge Spur track.T
his will be a “wet-boot” trip as there are several crossings of the Baton n
eeded. Please note, this trip is very weather dependant, due to the number o
f river crossings and the need to ford the river in vehicles. Because of th
is it is best to keep a check on the river flows - see https://www.tasman.g
