Leave early Saturday morning, drive up to the Cobb (2.5 hr drive). Follow the Fenella Track to Cobb Hut, then branch left to Lake Cobb, and continue on to Round Lake (approx 5.5 hour walk). Camp in this im pressive alpine basin at 1300m. (If the weather is unfavourable, an a lternative is to stay at Fenella Hut (1 serviced hut ticket)). If the weath er is good, explore the area around Round Lake early on Sunday morning.&nbs p; This will likely include a walk up to the ridge behind the lake to look at the views beyond. Walk back to the cars on Sunday. With a mo rning side trip, the walk back to the cars and the drive home, it is likely we will be back in Nelson after 7pm on Sunday.
You will need t o bring a tent and all cooking equipment.
On Sunday morning you have the option of waiting at the campsite if you prefer not to do the wal k up to the ridge, which would make this more like a medium trip.
