DESCRIPTION:Monday. 7.30pm, Nelson Intermediate School, Tipahi Street.  Gold coin donat
ion.\nGuest Speaker: Mark Graesser\nTo the Dragon's Teeth with James Mackay
in 1856: an exercise in vicarious tramping.\nJames Mackay Jr, then in his
20's, explored the mountainous hinterland of Golden Bay (then known as "Mas
sacre Bay") on three expeditions in 1856 and 1858. During these trips, Mack
ay named such features as Mount Olympus, the Clark River, and the Diamond L
akes. This talk will focus on the first trip, to the headwaters of the Aore
re River. It will be based on a close analysis of Mackay's reports in relat

headwaters of the Takaka.\n This event was imported from: https://live.nel
