For this Kings Birthday weekend we have booked the Cobb Hostel above the Cobb Dam (old hostel used by workers constructing the dam, now DOC). This will make a very comfortable base for day trips. The trips are likely to be easy-medium and hopefully include getting onto the tops but of course weat her dependent. Here are some options: 1) Some local exploring (we are usually shooting through to other destinations); 2) Drive to head of Cobb reservoir and up the track via Myttons Hut, circumanvigate the ridges above Lake Peel incl ascent of Mt Peel (1654m) and back down. The keener on es may continue on the ridge track above the reservoir to the down-track 1/ 2 way along to be picked up on the road; 3) Tougher alternative - Track fro m Trilobite Hut to Tent Camp, up to Camp Lake and down via the spur (if fea sible); 4) Up to Silvester Hut, on to the lake, Iron Hill and back.
