Soon after the hut we turn off the track and head up a ridge towards Mount Prospect. Once above the bush line, we will traverse around to our first c amp site at Camp Lake.\nDay 2: Climb up from our campsite to above the bush line and sidle around the ridge to below Mt Cobb. For those feeling inclin ed, a climb up Mt Cobb (without full packs) will give great views. (The rou te up is a bit exposed at times.) We continue along the ridge to take in Mt Gibbs, return to the lake and drop down to Round lake, where we then pick up the path from Round lake to the big tree camp site above Lake Cobb.\nDay 3: Drop down to Fenella hut for lunch and a swim in the tarns before slowl y plodding up the Waingaro Peak track. We will camp at the little valley at the top of the climb. For those with lots of energy, we can walk to Kakapo Peak and back without full packs. (3 -4 hr return). Celebrate the new Year evening in the mountains with the group doing the trip in the other direct ion.\nDay 4: We start down the Lockett range, past Mt Benson to camp at Rub y lake or Diamond Lake.\nDay 5: Explore the area, climb whatever peaks call to us (Iron Hill) and camp at Lake Lockett.\nDay 6: Back to the cars via t he Diamond lake stream path.\nLocket -Peel Range direction\nDay 1: From Syl vester hut car park up Diamond lake stream path to camp at Lake Lockett.\nD ay 2: Climb up Iron Hill and along the ridge, dropping down again to camp a t Ruby lake.\nDay 3: From Ruby lake climb up and around Mt Benson to the ca mpsite in the valley below Waingaro Peak to join the group doing the trip i n the other direction. Peel – Locket Range direction

Day 1: From Trilobite hut a gentle walk up the Cobb valley for morning tea at Chaffey Hut. Soon after the hut we turn off the track and head up a ridge towards Mount Prosp ect. Once above the bush line, we will traverse around to our first camp si te at Camp Lake.
