  Ferrier - Locket - Peel ranage direction.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Thursday
  29 December – 3 Jan : Leave cars at Trilobite hut / Sylvester hut car park
 s</p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Peel – 
 Locket Range direction</span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Day 1: From Trilobite
  hut a gentle walk up the Cobb valley for morning tea at Chaffey Hut. Soon 
 after the hut we turn off the track and head up a ridge towards Mount Prosp
 ect. Once above the bush line, we will traverse around to our first camp si
 te at Camp Lake.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Day 2: Climb up from our campsite 
 to above the bush line and sidle around the ridge to below Mt Cobb. For tho
 se feeling inclined, a climb up Mt Cobb (without full packs) will give grea
 t views. (The route up is a bit exposed at times.) We continue along the ri
 dge to take in Mt Gibbs, return to the lake and drop down to Round lake, wh
 ere we then pick up the path from Round lake to the big tree camp site abov
 e Lake Cobb.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Day 3: Drop down to Fenella hut for lu
 nch and a swim in the tarns before slowly plodding up the Waingaro Peak tra
 ck. We will camp at the little valley at the top of the climb. For those wi
 th lots of energy, we can walk to Kakapo Peak and back without full packs. 
 (3 -4 hr return). Celebrate the new Year evening in the mountains with the 
 group doing the trip in the other direction.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Day 4:
  We start down the Lockett range, past Mt Benson to camp at Ruby lake or Di
 amond Lake.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Day 5: Explore the area, climb whatever
  peaks call to us (Iron Hill) and camp at Lake Lockett.</p><p class="MsoNor
 mal">Day 6: Back to the cars via the Diamond lake stream path.</p><p class=
 "MsoNormal"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Locket -Peel Range di
 rection</span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Day 1: From Sylvester hut car park u
 p Diamond lake stream path to camp at Lake Lockett.</p><p class="MsoNormal"
 >Day 2: Climb up Iron Hill and along the ridge, dropping down again to camp
  at Ruby lake.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Day 3: From Ruby lake climb up and a
 round Mt Benson to the campsite in the valley below Waingaro Peak to join t
 he group doing the trip in the other direction. For those with lots of ener
 gy, we can walk to Kakapo Peak and back without full packs. (3 -4 hr return
 ). Celebrate the new Year evening in the mountains with the group doing the
  trip in the other direction.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Day 4: Drop down the 
 Waingaro Peak track to Fenella hut for morning tea and a swim in the tarn. 
 Climb Xenicus Peak before camping at either Lake Cobb or Round lake.</p><p 
 class="MsoNormal">Day 5: Climb up past Round lake and onto the ridge. Climb
  Mt Cobb if you don’t mind the exposure, for those great views. Otherwise a
  gentle walk around the ridge to find the last camp site at Camp lake.</p><
 p class="MsoNormal">Day 6: Back to the cars via Chaffey Hut with a final sw
 im in the Cobb river.</p><p>Note: This trip is all off route, so you need t
 o be comfortable walking on small/no paths. We will be camping at lakes eve
 ry night, so bring your own/share a tent. The distances we cover every day 
 aren't very far, which will give us time to expore/climb peaks in the area.
 &nbsp;&nbsp;Total distance is 54km over 6 days (5 nights).&nbsp;Side trips 
 to Mt Gibbs and Kakapoe Peak have been included in this distance. This trip
  won't be as hard as the 21-22 New Year tramp of Dragon's teeth (gums) but 
 will still need a good level of fitness and tramping experience.</p><p>Entr
 y / Exit point at Fenella Hut for those only wanting/able to do half the tr
