 wire ropes and ladders over, around and up rock faces is very popular. It i
 s called Via Ferrata.(by wire??)\nTakaka Hill is now home to NZ's second Vi
 a Ferrata (the first is a private one near Wanaka) Stage 1 opened late last
  year and is free to access.... but you need to hire safety gear. ($8/perso
 n from Ngarua Caves)\nStage 2 is under construction and will be a longer, m
 ore thrilling experience. But Stage 1 is a good test of your confidence for
  climbing around cliff faces.\nThere is a small "test climb" for people to 
 check their confidence. If it's not for you, the Walkway offers an alternat
