A leisurely wander in to Wainui Hut for an overnight camping trip. This trip is kid friendly and we will be bringing our heavy 2.5 year old along c arrying him so we won't be moving fast.
The valley is forested in beautiful beech forest, and t he track runs parallel to the mossy-banked Wainui River, which gradually in creases in flow with distance down the valley. There are several un-bridged creeks that are tricky to cross without getting wet feet.
5.6km both ways in and out.
Wainui Hut is positioned in a grassy clearing a short distance from Wainui River. Given the relatively low number of overnight visitors, the hut is only equipped with four bunks , TENTS ARE MANDATORY!
Those who want a bit more of a ch allenge can extend the trip with a loop out over the ridge on the way in or out.
I will carry a PLB and happily guide the way but there wi ll be an expectation that groups and participants will be self-sufficient a s I will be busy looking after my busy little boy.
