DESCRIPTION:Plan A: Waikakaho/Cullens' Creek  Plan B:Saddle Hill from Maungatapu Saddle
 .\nCullens Creek is the site of gold ming in the late 1880's when up to 100
 0 miners worked the diggings. A small township developed with 3 pubs; 5 bak
 eries; 2 billiard saloons, a bank and a Courthouse. Only signs remain to ma
 rk the village. It is a 3 hour walk up and over Waikakaho Saddle to the 'Vi
 llage Clearing' which was the centre of activity once the mining moved from
  alluvial to quarts crushing. Then return. [DOC has a warning that the trac
 k was damged during last July's strom; but the MTB site says that it is pas
 sable. We shall see]\n \nPlan B. Saddle Hill from Maungatpu Saddle. This ol
 d road is accessible from Pelorus Bridge and while rough and slow it does s
 ave the steep slog up from the Maitai Dam. The Saddle is at 780m and from t
 here, there is a marked track up and over the first "Double"(1168 m) then a
 fter a short descent up again to the second "Double" or Saddle Hill (1217 m
 ) where there are radio mast and great views back over Nelson and Tasman Ba
 y. Return the same way perhaps in time for a coffee at Pelorus or Rai Valle
